Go Get Em Tiger is the growing coffee empire by Kyle Glanville and Charles Babinski, a duo whose original G&B Coffee stall just so happens to be its own staple at Grand Central Market. With eight locations currently running throughout the city, Go Get Em Tiger has fast become a hometown chain with consistency, but with enough charm and nuance at each outpost to keep things fresh. Customers can choose from to-go goods and grab-and-go bottles of house-made cold brew, or take a patio seat to take in the funky, fun spaces with pastries, brunchy bites and retail items. While the fully plant-based coffee shop is only open on Sundays for now, Scary Good Coffee also sells bags of single-origin specialty coffee and house blends every day of the week online. Equal parts coffee, flower and gift shop, this laidback Venice café offers Westside locals gorgeous floral arrangements with a side of coffee.

Every time I happen to go there, I always order the Chef Salad. Many of these restaurants are located on outdoor plazas that look like they haven’t had a remodel since the 80’s but that’s part of the charm of the Valley. Try the Layla Latte, named for Butler’s daughter, which is a mix of lavender, vanilla and espresso. And grab a pastry to go — you’ll find vegan options along with decadent baked goods like Nutella Espresso Bread. Located in downtown Inglewood, Sip & Sonder is known for its modern, airy interior that doubles as an event space. Founded by two lawyers, Amanda-Jane Thomas and Shanita Nicholas, Sip & Sonder was designed to serve as a place where customers could share ideas and stories in the Black community.

Aside from the bread, the ingredients were super fresh and melded together seamlessly. With three locations in Central LA, you can finally enjoy this Australian-inspired chain that serves coffees and other specialty Aussie brunch dishes in the Valley. Great coffee, amazing avocado toasts and warm staff with lovely accents, what else could you ask for? The only drawback is the small space and the limited seating options.

The successful product of an online crowdfunding campaign, this cozy Compton-based café and organic coffee roaster sells excellent coffee, tea and vegan pastries, plus a small array of beautiful plants. An eclectic mix of art dots the walls of Patria Coffee, which features a handful of indoor seats and a few patio tables on the grass outside. Head to these coffee shops in L.A., Hollywood, Culver City, Santa Monica and beyond, for great espresso drinks, lattes and pour-overs and options for remote work. This takeaway-oriented neighborhood spot off San Vicente does, in fact, make some damn good coffee. Run by Joshua Mock (of the now-closed Little Amsterdam Coffee), Dam Good Coffee offers a brief, but satisfying menu of espresso-based drinks, hot and iced tea, lemonade and even a few affordably priced toasts and pastries. Add-ons like chaga, a superb dirty chai latte and friendly, efficient staff make this Mid-City café a must-go for locals in the area—and anyone else passing through. Tea, not coffee, is the focus of this family-owned Inglewood café with a charming patio and plenty of indoor seating. Though you’ll still find "the other drink" on the menu, Mingles offers over two dozen loose leaf varieties, including several caffeine-free herbal blends, with staff members happy to educate patrons about the health benefits and nuanced flavors of tea.

Harun Coffee in Leimert Park doubles as an art gallery, and is curated with the work of a new Black artist every two months. The terrace is nice but the tables are old and rusty, not sure if i would like to eat there. Moreover they asked me a dollar extra for a bit more of milk in my Americano. Bill, the 94 year old man behind the business name, has been working the grill at this old-school burger joint since 1965. Many of the reviews say that the burgers are great, but not worth the 30 minute wait. Others compare his burgers to the ones from In N Out, stating their similarities, while other reviews praise Bill’s Hamburgers as the best homemade burgers you will ever have. It has pretty mixed reviews to say the least so you’ll just have to go and see for yourself.

Tourists and Westsiders might wait in long lines at Intelligentsia up the street, but Silver Lake locals prefer Cafecito, the quieter shop up on Hoover. Here you’ll find less pretension and more privacy, not to mention an ethos that's all about sustainability and social justice. The shop is small, with only a bit of counter space inside, but a spacious and pet-friendly patio makes for a good place to get work done, catch up with friends or make eyes at your neighbor. Street parking can be tough to find, but bike racks abound for two-wheeled commuters.
